In some large cities, sweet alcoholic drinks with tapioca pearls have become popular among young adults. Many buyers are captivated by the cold cup, the sweet smell, and the chewy pearls at the bottom. The first few sips may taste delectable, but the drink is not harmless just because it is sweet. When people consume this beverage too often, the habit can become addictive. Some drinkers feel hooked on the sugar, while others become dependent on alcohol. Heavy consumption may pose health risks and lead to serious disease in the long term. After a person drinks the mixture, sugar is absorbed quickly, and alcohol enters the blood. The body must then metabolize it in the liver. This process can put pressure on liver tissue, especially when drinking becomes excessive. Alcohol does not infect the liver, but it can damage liver cells and contribute to inflammation. Over time, heavy drinking may lead to alcoholic hepatitis, cirrhosis, or even liver failure. The high sugar intake can also add too many calories and contribute to weight gain, obesity, and metabolic imbalance. The drink can also affect the nervous system. Intoxication may impair judgment, weaken coordination, and result in slurred speech or loss of balance. At first, some drinkers feel relaxed or elated. Later, however, alcohol can depress brain activity. A person may become anxious, uneasy, or downcast. For people already living with anxiety or depression, frequent drinking can exacerbate mental symptoms rather than ease them. Doctors often warn that the danger is not in one small drink, but in repeated excessive intake. Alcohol can also make the body lose fluid and electrolyte balance, so the drinker may become dehydrated and feel severe fatigue. A nutritionist may suggest more nutritious meals, healthier habits, and regular sleep. A moderate choice may be acceptable for some adults, but daily consumption is risky and harmful. People who feel compelled to drink should seek help before addiction escalates. Alcohol should never be treated as an ordinary sweet drink.
